Picture this. You’re sailing on a cruise ship. Your destination is an exotic island. You know you’re going to find pristine sands, crystal clear water, beautiful landscapes, a luxurious room to stay for your vacation, and it’s all been paid with the passive income your business generated over the past few months.

You’re thinking of all the places you can visit, the things you’re going to do when you get back home after this long overdue vacation. And just then, your best friend comes along and screams your name out loud! Pop goes the dream bubble!

Well, sorry for giving you that dream and popping it. But so is the case with most new Internet Marketers today. Actually, all online marketers or home-based business owners start with a dream that’s similar to this. It may not be a vacation, but there are tons of other reasons why someone would want to step into online business. Some take the drastic step and dive in headlong thinking that they can learn how to do everything after they’ve jumped in. Boy! Could they be any farther from the truth?

Let me talk to you about some real-life frustrations that new internet marketers face. If you’re already going through these situations, I’ll give you a way out towards the end of the article. If this is all new to you, believe me, you can make a well-informed decision by the end of the article.

Frustration #1: I’m not able to make any money online

This is the number one reason why new internet marketers give up and stop pursuing online marketing. Unlike established businesses who have large capitals and established presence in the market where you can work to earn a monthly salary, online business is where you do EVERYTHING yourself (unless you have a consultant or mentor to guide you through the process). Let’s do a quick comparison.

What happens when you join an organization?

  • You get an offer letter.
  • You join a team.
  • You are provided training for the job.
  • You work towards goals.
  • You develop yourself (with regards to skills).
  • You build a good reputation resulting in promotions and hikes.
  • You get paid at the end of the month. Like clockwork.

Now, what happens when you start an organization (we’re talking about a solopreneur company)?

  • You need to create the identity (register your company).
  • You need to build a web presence.
  • You need to invest in tools required for your business.
  • You need to establish the goals.
  • You need to decide on the products/services to offer.
  • You need to find the right marketplaces to promote your offer.
  • You need to create the products or find products to promote as an affiliate.
  • You need to compete with well-established online marketers.
  • You start promoting your offer.
  • You spend money on various online advertising platforms.
  • You may (or may not) get paid at the end of the month.

So, we’re back to the frustration. “I’m not able to make money online”. What’s the reason? I guess you already got a hint from the above points.

Now, don’t get me wrong. You CAN make money working online, but the only point you have to remember is that it will take time (a few months to a year or more). You need to keep trying until you find that breakthrough. You will, eventually.

Solution:

  • Be patient.
  • Don’t lose hope.
  • Don’t give up.
  • It might take time to make those initial bucks online, but it will be worth it in the end.
  • Work harder. Your effort will pay you back handsomely.
  • Get a good mentor (my recommendation here)

Frustration #2: I’m working more hours than in my 9 to 5 job

Ha ha, did you think online business was easy? Did you fall for all those products which claim you can be making money in as little as 30 minutes or 30 days? Or did you listen to marketing gurus who make it seem so easy to rake in the cash bills by working just 8 hours a week?

Don’t be embarrassed. Everyone goes through this phase. A select few may not have this privilege because they found the right coach/mentor early on. But, if you’re reading this, chances are that you are experiencing this frustration. You’re working (or having to work) more hours than you would have at your 9 to 5 job.

Well, I hope you didn’t quit your job yet. Because that’ll keep giving you some income to support you while you work on your business.

Do you know why you end up spending more time when you’re working on your own business? It’s because you do everything by yourself. If only there was a handbook to walk you through each step of the process, right?

Solution:

  • Set clear goals for yourself.
  • Create a calendar of tasks to complete.
  • Stay on track.
  • Work to achieve the tasks for each day.
  • Set specific working hours.
  • Give yourself some ‘Me’ time.
  • Don’t procrastinate.

Frustration #3: I’m confused!

The state of confusion is a dangerous one. It’s not simple confusion — it’s chaos! Everything you want to do online seems to be heading into a roadblock. You start something and it ends up only in your recycle bin.

You want to set up funnels, but you’re overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices you have in front of you. Plus, they’re too expensive.

You want to set up a WordPress website, and you’re stuck with the theme to use. And, you’re also trying to figure out which plugins will be the most beneficial to you without creating a heavy (slow-loading) website.

You want to set up an autoresponder, but the autoresponder either is too expensive and limited, or too complicated to use, or just doesn’t approve you as their newest subscriber.

You want to start affiliate marketing, but you don’t know which product to promote.

You find an affiliate product to promote, and the vendor doesn’t approve you because you are new.

You get approved by the product vendor but now don’t know how to get traffic to the offer!

Roadblocks.

Confusion at every step, despite following some courses or training.

To add to this melee, you are now presented with a ton of software and training products in your email from the hundreds of subscriptions you signed up for.

Solution:

  • You need a proper guide.
  • Take one step at a time.
  • Determine to focus on one line of business and become an expert in it before diverting to other areas.
  • Invest in learning the basics of marketing and business setup.
  • Find a good mentor (my recommendation here)

If you’re planning to get into affiliate marketing, here’s a primer article you should read.

These are three of the most common frustrations that haunt new internet marketers. The solutions to each are clear. But, if you really want to avoid these frustrations early on in your marketing career, try my recommendation. You won’t regret it.

In the meantime, do write in the comments what your biggest frustration as a new internet marketer is/was and if you found a solution to it.
